I love finding those little places that feel more authentic and local than touristy. Praiano,Italy, on the pristine Amalfi Coast is one of those finds.
This little town is just down the road from the bigger more popular tourist destination of Positano. If you want to go shopping, definitely Positano is where you want to be, but what Praiano lacks in shops, it makes up for in great restaurants, a fun beach, and a whole lot of local character.
We explored several beaches in the area, and always had the most fun at “our” beach in Praiano. There were enough people to make it interesting, but not so many that you had to fight for a piece of beach. The rocky shoreline not only adds to the beauty, but makes for some fun cliff jumping. We did some warm up jumps off the concrete dock until we finally got the nerve to jump off the high rocks. Of course first we watched some of the locals jump, so we knew it was deep enough and safe.
I could sit for hours watching and listening to the local motion while combing the pebbles for beach glass. My 10 year old was fascinated watching the fishing boats come in with buckets of seafood and more specifically, muscles. He talked about the muscles ALL day and was dying to try them after witnessing the harvest. Of course we didn’t have to walk far to have a fabulous meal with a fabulous view in Praiano. He ate ALL his muscles. Every one. 🙂
We LOVE that little town of Praiano!
